Kailasapuram hosts Poompuhar crafts mela in Tiruchi

In an attempt to provide an marketing avenue for handicrafts made at different parts of the country, the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (Poompuhar) has organised a ‘crafts mela’ at Kailasapuram Club in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

Thanjavur paintings, gem stones, jute products, Rajasthan dress materials are other attractions. Churidars from Benares textile varieties especially Gagra choli are the main attraction.

Decorative wall hangings from Ahmedabad, for instance, are among the major attractions. The wall hangings are eight feet long and 7.5 feet broad and starts at a price of Rs. 9,000, says R. Ganga Devi, Manager of the Poompuhar Showroom .

Terracotta ,rose wood, sandalwood, bronze and brass wares soap stone, printed cotton saris and designer saris are other exhibits on display.

A sales target of Rs.8 lakh has been fixed for the expo, which is open till December 29. The exhibition is open from 10-00 a.m. to 8-00 p.m. including Sundays.
