Joint effort to tighten security of ATMs in Tiruchi

The brazen attack on a woman bank official inside an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at Bangalore recently has come as a wake up call for the Tamil Nadu police to coming out with a set of precautionary measures to prevent such unsavoury occurrences in the State.

In a recent communication, instructions have been given to Police Commissioners in respect of cities and Superintendents of Police of districts to initiate the protective strengthen measures.

The police officers have been asked to coordinate with bank officials in their respect limits to ensure proper security in all ATMs. Field-level officers have been directed to march beats covering ATMs as well falling within their respective jurisdiction.

Field level officers have been instructed to compile reports regarding the availability of CCTV system in ATMs and bank branches and the number of those without this facility in their respective limits. As part of the exercise, Station House Officers have also been asked to note collect the details of the banks and ATMs functioning in their respective limit and the date on which the inspection had been carried out. Detailed report from every SHO in a prescribed format would be sent to the respective unit officer who in turn would consolidate and prepare and forward them to the headquarters, the sources said.
