Innovators need to learn nuances of IPR, says CII

Protection of innovations in the form of patents can help create a huge value out of ideas and drive the economy of the country to greater heights, said speakers at an awareness session on intellectual property rights as part of the World IP Day in the city on Tuesday.

While youths are bubbling with innovative ideas and look for ways to protect their creations, limited awareness on the different IPRs such as patents, copyrights, and trademarks hamper their attempts. For protecting technological innovations, awareness of IPRs such as patents is essential, they said at the session organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Young Indians, Tiruchi Chapter and Yi-YUVA students in association with DexPatent, an intellectual property and patent research and analytics services offering from Dextrasys Technologies Private Limited.

R. Anbarasu, Vice-Chairman of CII, Tiruchi Zone, Prative Chend, Chair, Young Indians, Tiruchi Chapter, and Samuel Christopher, Vice-principal of Bishop Heber College, spoke.

The IP awareness presentation conducted by the patent scientists and patent engineers from DexPatent, was attended by students and faculty members from colleges in and around Tiruchi. The session gave an orientation to the students on the cost of patent filing and the schemes available in India, especially in Tamil Nadu for start-ups and the small entities for patent registrations.

Manohar Jha, Director and Vice President of Dextrasys Technologies, presented a surprise award to the most active participant of the day.

Tharangini Rajaraman, Chief Financial Officer, Dextrasys, urged students from all fields to explore this new age career opportunity in the field of IP.
