HPCL installs RO plant at Kallakudi

Residents of the town could draw five litres of water by inserting a Re.1 coin.

A drinking water purification plant, established by the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. under its corporate social responsibility initiative, was inaugurated at Kallakudi on Wednesday.

The HPCL has installed the Reverse Osmosis plant on the Kallakudi Town Panchayat bus stand premises at a cost of Rs.12 lakh.

Residents of the town could draw five litres of water by inserting a Re.1 coin through the vending machine. Alternatively, they can also obtain a smart card, rechargeable at the Kallakudi Town Panchayat office, to draw the water from the second vending machine.

The unit can purify and dispense about 2,000 litres of drinking water an hour. The unit was inaugurated by R.J.Prasad, Chief Regional Manager, HPCL, Tiruchi, in the presence of Assistant Director of Town Panchayat Margaret Suseela and the Town panchayat president R.Valambal.

The HPCL has already installed a similar plant at Pullampadi.
