The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Headmasters’ Association has announced protests to express its disgust over the existing system of promotion to DEO (District Education Officer) cadre.
Demonstrations would be conducted in front of the district collectorates on August 22 and that would be followed by a day-long token fast in Chennai on September 7,
State president of the association T. Subramanian said. Higher secondary school heads were unhappy with the State Government for not taking a decision based on the report of a newly-formed committee that has analysed the issue of promotion objectively, he said.

Since the system provides leeway for high school heads to become DEOs and CEOs soon, higher secondary school heads who possess higher experience and qualification face the ignominy of reporting to such officials who were once their subordinates, Mr. Subramanian said.
Members of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Headmasters’ Association have decided not to attend the meeting convened by CEOs who had attained the position after having served as high school headmasters.

Need for security guards
At a meeting here recently, the association sought appointment of computer operators and security guards.
Due to administrative pressures, school heads faced difficulty in safeguarding the stock of freebies given as benefits to school students in the schools, Mr. Subramanian said.
It was unjustified to fix the responsibility on the school heads in case any material went missing.
Pension after audit
The circular issued by the school education department that pension benefits would be given to the school heads only after audit clearance must be withdrawn, the association has demanded.
