Traffic congestion witnessed in many places

Many main roads in Tiruchi were heavily inundated due to sudden downpour on Saturday.

Heavy rain lashed Tiruchi city late on Saturday evening, disrupting normal life to some extent.

The rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder, lasted for about couple of hours in several parts of the city. Many of the arterial roads in the city, including the Madurai Road, Heber Road and roads in Thennur and Thillai Nagar areas were heavily inundated, exposing the inadequacies of the city’s storm water drainage system. Traffic was also disrupted at several places and many two wheeler riders were stranded. Heavy traffic congestion was witnessed around the Central and Chathram bus stands, besides other places.

The rain however came as huge relief for city residents and farmers in the district as the groundwater table had gone down badly in recent months.
