Heavy fog leads to diversion of fighter aircrafts to Tiruchi airport

Foggy weather conditions prevailed in the morning in Tiruchi on Wednesday.

Heavy fog led to the diversion of four Sukhoi fighter aircrafts of the Indian Air Force to the Tiruchi international airport in the early hours on Wednesday.

The four fighter aircrafts was to have landed at the Thanjavur Air Force base when they were diverted to the Tiruchi international airport due to heavy fog on Wednesday. The aircrafts landed at around 1 a.m. one after the other.

After visibility became clear hours later, the four aircrafts left Tiruchi for Thanjavur Air Force base, the airport sources said.

Poor visibility at the Tiruchi airport also led to the delayed arrival of the Tiruchi-bound Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo. The flight which was scheduled to land at Tiruchi at 8.55 a.m. arrived late by one-and-half-hours, the sources said. The aircraft landed here at around 10.35 a.m.
