Around 55 undergraduate students participated in the competition.
The event was headed by Andal Dhinakaran, head of the department, and judged by Malathi Prabhakaran of the Cantonment Ladies Club. “It was a challenge for me to make an innovative hairstyle in the competition and I am happy to have got a platform to showcase my skills. I attended an add-on course in beauty culture organised by the Department of Fashion Technology, where I learnt the art of hair dressing,” said R. Radhika, a final year computer science student and participant in the event. Participants were informed of the event a week in advance and they chose their models based on the hair type suitable for the hairstyle they had in mind. The time limit for the competition was one-and-a-half hours.
Different hairstyles such as traditional wear, party wear, bridal wear, casual wear, French roll, Macram knot, birds nest and so on were seen at the event. Hair clips, barrettes, scrunchies, butterfly clips, and flowers were used innovatively to produce the interesting hairdos.
