Government arts and science colleges receive hand-holding support for NAAC accreditation

Government arts and science colleges have got some hand-holding support from Bharathidasan University and National Assessment and Accreditation Council, under the aegis of RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), for going through the accreditation process.

A workshop on assessment and accreditation procedures organised by the State Project Directorate of RUSA earlier this week had the participation of 83 principals and coordinators of government arts and science colleges under the ambit of Bharathidasan and Alagappa universities

The day-long exclusive workshop facilitated by Advisor of NAAC B. S. Ponmudiraj was meant to help the unaccredited institutions understand the dynamics of the NAAC’s assessment and accreditation process.

In his presentation, Prof. Ponmudiraj, while highlighting the need and significance of Institutional Assessment, said accreditation, focused on the quality parameters and benchmarks. He explained the different steps involved in the preparation of the Self Study Report and the quality metrics under the seven criteria of the NAAC’s revised framework for assessment.

Inaugurating the Workshop, Vice Chancellor of Bharathidasan University M. Selvam spoke on initiatives like UGC-Paramarsh, which is meant for mentoring institutions aspiring for NAAC Accreditation to promote quality assurance in higher education.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed the participants of the government’s funding schemes and grants, the sanction of which essentially requires NAAC accreditation.

In his key-note address, the Registrar In-Charge of Bharathidasan University L. Ganesan dwelt on the strategies for quality sustenance and improvement in the higher education system, right from curriculum design to best practices.

B. S. Vijayalakshmi, Project Manager, State Project Directorate of RUSA,Tamil Nadu, and Vanathi Vembar, Research Officer, also addressed the participants.

At the valedictory session, the Regional Joint Director, Directorate of Collegiate Education (Thanjavur Region), T. Arivudainambi distributed the Certificates of Participation.
