Mathematics may often baffle a section of students. When it comes to Plus Two examinations, students work harder to understand numerous formulae and their applications.

With a view to creating a sense of confidence among students who will appear for the Plus Two public examination to be held in March / April, a Srirangam-based service organisation, T.K.R. Academy of Maths, organised a model public examination at The Boys Higher Secondary School in Srirangam which evoked an overwhelming response from the students on Sunday.

About 550 students from different schools in the city appeared for the general mathematics and Business mathematics papers prepared by the Academy.

“The aim of the examination is to encourage students to be fully prepared for the mathematics paper which provides ample opportunity to score high marks in the public examination,” says K.R. Dinesh, president of the Academy which has been conducting the test for the sixth consecutive year.

What started as a small measure and restricted to the students of The Boys Higher Secondary School in Srirangam in 2010 has gone down well among the students. Question paper was prepared by K. Venkatesan, headmaster of the school, and answer sheets would be valued by the members of the Academy based on a key.

Interestingly, the expenditure for conducting the examination is borne by the members of the Academy who are all youths, some of whom are post-graduate students.

“We contribute our mite towards the cause of scoring higher marks in the mathematics examination so as to increase their cut-off mark,” say B. Srinivas, R. Venkatesh and S. Manoj, members of the Academy.

The answer-sheets would be valued within a fortnight and those scoring cent per cent marks would be honoured at a function to be held later, says Mr. Dinesh.

This is one of the services being rendered by the Academy.

“We pay the tuition fees of poor pupils of various standards. This year, we have been footing the tuition fees of 15 students including eight boys and seven girls from different parts of the state. Those interested can contact Mr. Dinesh by dialling 81482-29210.
