Mystery shrouds the death of a Dalit college girl, whose body was recovered from the toilet of the institution in which she was studying on Tuesday.
T. Sindhuja (20), pursuing second year B.A. (English Literature), at Annai College of Arts and Science, Kovilachery near here, was found dead inside the women’s toilet of the college. Classmates said Sindhuja did not return for long after she retired to the restroom and those who went to the restroom found one particular toilet locked from inside.
College officials then broke open the door and found Sindhuja lying there. She was rushed to Kumbakonam GH where doctors declared her brought dead.

Kumbakonam Taluk police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Cr.PC. Sindhuja’s father Thirumeni, a police head constable attached to Annamalai Nagar police station in Chidambaram, preferred a complaint with the police. Meanwhile, some cadre of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi staged a demonstration in front of the GH demanding action against the college administration for the death of the girl.
Sindhuja used to go to college from home at Kattumannarkoil in Cuddalore district. Though she had come to the college on Tuesday, she did not sit for the model exams or attend classes, it is said. After the post-mortem conducted at the hospital, the body was handed over to girl’s relatives.

Police sources said while there was no indication of any poisonous substance in her viscera nor were there any symptoms of a cardiac failure, the investigators were looking into other medical conditions as the body was found inside the bathroom locked from inside.
