September 20, 2011 02:17 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:43 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Within a month after arresting former Minister K.N. Nehru on charges of land grabbing, the City Crime Branch (CCB) registered another land grab case against him and 17 others including his brother K.N. Ramajeyam and Deputy Mayor M. Anbazhagan.

The case was registered on Sunday under various sections of IPC on a complaint lodged by P. Karunanithi of Pollampalayam in Erode.

With Nehru, Ramajayam and Anbazhagan already in judicial custody in the first case, the CCB on Monday arrested five persons — Kottapattu R. Sethu; Kottapattu R. Shanmugam; P. Kamaraj; Madhankumar and Karthi — in the fresh case.

Bail plea adjourned

The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday adjourned to Thursday the hearing on bail applications filed by Mr. Nehru, Tiruchi Deputy Mayor M. Anbalagan and a few other Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries, who were arrested on August 25 in connection with a land grab case.

The prosecution case was that the accused initially paid Rs. 40 lakh to the complainant K. Srinivasan, a doctor by profession, for parting with his land but snatched the money thereafter.

However, arguing the bail petitions, the petitioners' counsel claimed that the sale consideration was actually deposited in the bank account of the complainant.

Hence, Justice R. Mala adjourned the case for production of bank documents to prove their claim.
