A symphony of sounds, classical and contemporary, by young artistes and fireworks symbolising the spirit of one of the biggest intercollegiate events marked the start of Festember XI on a high note this Thursday.
A violin concert by duo Ganesh Kumaresh , a professional fire show by Surya Enterprises and reminiscences by alumni set the tone for the annual cultural extravaganza. Celebrated in ‘Vegas spirit' this year, organisers hope to better last year's registration of 300 colleges.
The young artistes expressed their excitement at playing to a large gathering of young people, willing to embrace a fusion of carnatic and eastern music.

Sundarajan, Director, NIT-T, delivering the presidential address, said cultural shows were important for college students to learn the nuances of team work, co-operation and leadership.
The festival was a case study for administration and organization. Convenor K.Sankaranarayansamy, spoke. Suresh and Parthiban Staff Advisors, Festember XI, spoke on the significance of the event.
Faculty members Suresh and Parthiban highlighted the significance and unique features of Festember. They hoped this year's edition would have 3,000 participants from nearly 400 colleges. Rajat Goyal, Chairman, welcomed and Pranav Mehta, overall coordinator, thanked the gathering.

Two alumni – Raja Shankar, industrialist and Madhavan, Professor of electrical engineering, Georgia Tech University recollected their experiences of organising Festember in the eighties. ‘Feeds', a special booklet compiling the best of the past editions of was released.
Festember XI promises a plethora of entertainment with a host of contests and workshops for students. Notching up the entertainment quotient will be a performance by Crazy Mohan, rock concert by Motherjane and a Pro show by Suchitra Karthik, Javed Ali and Suresh Peters.
