Raucous cheering, fire crackers, milk ‘abhishekams’ and adoration for Kamal Haasan was the dominant vignette as Vishwaroopam opened to packed cinemas in the city on Thursday.

After much uncertainty over its release last month, the movie ultimately hit the screens across Tamil Nadu. In Tiruchi city, the movie released in five theatres – Kalaiarangam, Cauvery, Oorvasi, Sri Venkatesa and Vijay Multiplex Cinemas.

The tremendous pre-release buzz – the grand, multi-city audio launch and the introduction of Auro 3D sound technology for the first time in Asia amplifying the excitement – seems to have made

As the movie was already released in other parts of the world, Kamal’s fans from Tamil Nadu couldn’t bear the wait.

Die-hard fans travelled to Kerala and Karnataka to watch the movie. Among them was N.Sarathy, secretary, Tiruchi District Kamal Haasan Welfare Association.

“Although I watched the film in Bangalore, there’s nothing like watching it first-day first-show here amidst all the fanfare,” said Mr. Sarathy.

“The film is simply outstanding and is of international standard. Vishwaroopam is a racy ride from start to finish. It has already assumed the proportion of a blockbuster across the world and is sure going to be a treat for cinema-lovers in the State. Kamal has set new benchmarks in not only acting but also direction,” he observed.

Many others echoed similar views. “Every section of the audience will enjoy the film, particularly the terrific action sequences and thalaivar’s performance. You won’t be content with watching Vishwaroopam once.

It’s a technically brilliant movie that transports you to a different land altogether. The art direction and camerawork deserve special mention,” said a visibly-excited Kamal fan S.Badri.

The duo, along with scores of other fans, went about watching all shows of the day.

It’s been a little over two years since Kamal’s previous film ManMadhan Ambu released. The wait, the fans observed, has been worth it.

G.Srinivasan from Thanjavur adds:

Vishwaroopam was screened in various theatres in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts on Thursday. In Thanjavur the film is running in three theatres - Shanthi and Kamala in GV Complex and Ad-Labs.

Fans of Kamal Haasan led by Dharuma Saravanan, district co-ordinator of the Kamal Haasan Narpani Mandram took out a procession from Periyar statue and came to Shanthi theatre.

Crackers were burst and fans celebrated the release of the film with much fanfare. All three theatres were packed on Thursday for all the shows.

The film was screened at Rajamani theatre at Pattukottai and three theatres in Tiruvarur district - at Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi and Mannargudi.

Theatre owners said that they expected housefuls in the weekend. Big cut outs of Kamal Haasan and flex boards hailing him decorated the theatres.
