For the first time in Tiruchi, a select group of ex-servicemen employed in security-related duties in government undertakings, has been imparted basic training in fire fighting techniques by the fire fighters of Tiruchi division. The training held in batches was organised for the ex-military personnel through the Tamil Nadu Ex-Servicemen’s Corporation Limited, a State-owned undertaking established with the aim of providing necessary assistance for rehabilitation of ex-servicemen.
In all, 138 ex-servicemen employed in security duties on contract basis in the Central and the State government undertakings in the district were imparted hands-on training on a gamut of aspects connected with fire fighting and rescue operations.
During the 10-day training conducted for every batch, the participants were trained in basic techniques, the ways to operate equipment used to extinguish fire, operation of sprinkler system, and the methods to rescue people trapped in a building. The participants were told about the importance of ensuring the working condition of fire-fighting equipment in their respective offices and its periodical check-ups.

This is for the first time that ex-servicemen had been trained in basic fire fighting techniques in Tiruchi by the fire fighters, said Divisional Fire Officer Syed Mohamed Shah.
The sessions were conducted at Tiruchi fire station in different batches, Mr. Shah said and added that the participants were taken on industrial visit as part of their training.
The Fire and Rescue Services personnel would impart theoretical and practical training to 100 more ex-servicemen. Certificates were given away to some ex-servicemen who underwent the training programme by R.C. Kudawla, Additional Director-General of Police and Director, Fire and Rescue Services, Tamil Nadu, at Tiruchi fire station on Monday evening.
