Expo on Home Compostgets under way in Tiruchi

50 stalls have been put up at Kalaiarangam

Nothing goes waste: School children at the Home Compost expo in Tiruchi on Friday.

A three-day exhibition on Home Compost and Alternative for Plastics organised by the Tiruchi Corporation got under way here on Friday. The initiative is aimed at enlightening residents on ways to turn biodegradable waste generated at home into organic manure using small-sized Home Composter.

Around 50 stalls have been put up at Kalaiarangam by different firms and agencies involved in solid waste management and selling alternative items for plastic. Firms from various parts of the State and Bengaluru showcased their products.

A slew of equipment, including home composting machines, were kept on display. Requirements for establishing terrace garden at home were explained to the public.

Collector K. Rajamani inaugurated the expo. Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran and officials of the civic body and Horticulture Department were present.

The inaugural day attracted students and public. Vermi composting, pit composting, bucket composting and pipe composting were explained at the expo.
