Complex mathematical concepts were simplified and explained to school and college students during the mathematics exhibition organised by the department of mathematics, Bishop Heber College in the city on Tuesday.
The two-day exhibition was inaugurated by E. Ramganesh, registrar, Bharathidasan University.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ramganesh encouraged students to find applications for mathematics in various fields and to excel in their chosen career.

He cited examples of applications of mathematics in the fields of medicine and chemistry.
D. Paul Dhayabaran, principal, Bishop Heber College, presided over the inaugural event.
“The objective of the exhibition is to inculcate interest in mathematics among the student fraternity. The event will be a source of delight for mathematics lovers as they can find joy in the various exhibits and models being displayed,” said S. Valarmathi, head and associate professor, department of mathematics of the college.

More than 130 exhibits were put up as part of the exhibition.
A total of 250 students from the department of mathematics demonstrated and explained various concepts of mathematics to visitors, using charts, and 3D live working models.
Interesting exhibits included Modern Music Math house and Tower of Hanoi; major concepts of aerodynamics, illusions, projective geometry and puzzles also featured in the exhibition.
Students from 15 schools and 20 colleges in and around Tiruchi district have been invited to visit the exhibition, said Ms. Valarmathi.
