Essay, painting contests mark energy conservation week

Energy conservation is the need of hour. With the widening gap between demand and supply, conservation is only remedy to bridge the gap, said speakers at a function organised as part of observance of ‘Energy Conservation Week’ here on Wednesday.

Explaining the salient features of the annual contest organised jointly by Anna Science Centre – Planetarium and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, I. K. Lenin Tamilkovan, Project Director of the Planetarium, said that sensitisation of students to the importance of energy conservation would go a long way in conserving non-renewable resources.

The event included painting, essay-writing, and elocution competitions for students.

S. Sekkizhar, Superintending Engineer, Tangedco, Tiruchi Metro, inaugurated the contest. Prizes would be given to winners at the valediction of the ‘Energy Conservation Week’ on December 20.

Booth at Junction

The Tiruchi Railway Division is observing energy conservation week from December 8 to 14.

As part of the observance, an energy awareness booth was opened at Tiruchi railway junction by Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, on Wednesday.

A brochure containing energy conservation tips was distributed among passengers and staff on the occasion, a Southern Railway release here said.
