An air of ecstasy prevailed in the Tiruchi Central Prison too when the results of the Plus Two examinations were out on Thursday.

It was 100 per cent pass as all the eight life convicts who took the examinations this time successfully cleared them much to their delight.

Incarcerated for committing murders, the eight lifers were provided with text books and other reading materials by the Prisons Department which also arranged tutors to coach the convicts. Regular classes were conducted in one of the blocks within the sprawling jail campus by engaging teachers and with help from certain non-governmental organisations, said a senior prison official.

Vocational subjects

The convicts had opted for vocational subjects for the examination. Amid police escort, the convicts were taken to Central Prison at Puzhal in Chennai where they sat for the examination. Upon completion of the examination, the prisoners were brought back to Tiruchi prison, said the official.

Sustained coaching coupled with the will to succeed enabled the convicts in clearing the examinations.
