There has been a drop in the number of murder cases reported in the district in 2017 as compared to the previous year.
The district also saw a marked decline in the number of fatalities in road accidents last year.
Six murder cases were reported in 2017 in which 11 accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The murder cases reported last year were lesser as compared to 2016 when 11 such cases were booked.

A total number of 16 persons, who were involved in law and order and crime cases, were detained under the Goondas Act as a deterrent measure last year. The same act was invoked against four others who were involved in crimes against women and children, a police press release said.
In several cases, investigators confiscated stolen property with the recovery rate being higher in 2017. The release further said the value of the stolen goods in property-related offences was to the tune of ₹74.23 lakh. Investigators recovered stolen property worth ₹60.98 lakh with the detection and recovery rates being 91%t and 82% respectively.
A total number of 126 cases were booked against those who indulged in crimes against women. The accused involved in such cases were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Traffic violations
On the traffic front, a total number of 6,632 cases were booked against those found driving vehicles under the influence. Other traffic rule violation cases were booked against 93,180 persons in an effort to check accidents. Fines amounting to a whopping ₹ 88.04 lakh were collected from the rule violators.
The release further said fatalities in road accidents reduced from 184 in 2016 to 165 in 2017. Of the total 105 missing cases booked in 2017, the district police achieved breakthrough in many cases, tracing 94 persons who were reunited with their near ones.
