A group of lorry drivers affiliated to the CITU picketed the Indian Oil Corporation bottling plant at Inamkulathur on Wednesday demanding that they should be allowed to continue after the recent change of contract of lorry operators.

Unable to take their vehicles inside the plant, a section of new lorry owners on their part squatted on the Tiruchi–Dindigul national highway disrupting traffic.

The contention of the lorry drivers was that despite entry of new set of lorry operators they should be allowed to continue as drivers.

The stand of the new lorry operators who had been running 100 vehicles was that they had the option to engage new drivers.

The road roko attracted the intervention of the police and revenue officials and the owners and drivers were called for talks.

The talks are expected to continue on Thursday.
