Demand for separate sand quarry for bullock carts

Hundreds of CITU Sand Bullock-cart Workers Association took out a procession and staged a demonstration at Pattukottai on Tuesday demanding separate sand quarry for bullock-cart operators.

The demonstrators, led by CITU district secretary C. Jayabal went in a procession from near TNSTC bus depot to the demonstration venue near the Sub-Collector Office, Pattukottai.

They raised slogans demanding a separate sand quarry for them and issue of identity cards. They also condemned foisting of cases on bullock-cart operators and impounding their cart and cattle. They demanded steps to check plundering of natural wealth using machinery.

Later, the leaders of the demonstration submitted a memorandum at the office of Sub-Collector. The representatives from CPI(M), Unorganised Sector Workers Association, AIDWA, Thanjavur District Fishing Industry Workers Union, TASMAC Workers Union and others participated in the rally and the demonstration.
