A police Constable attached to Tiruchi City Police consumed poison on Monday and is undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital here.
Police sources said Constable Arokia Selvaraj (54), a Grade – I Constable attached to E. Pudur police station, used to remain absent from duty frequently. He abstained from duty from June 9 onwards. Although he had joined the service in 1984, he could not get promotion because of punishment, the sources said. The sources said Arokia Selvaraj had lost the walkie- talkie set apparently under inebriated condition a few months ago. The reason for the constable consuming poison would be inquired, the sources said.
