Congress candidate of Karur Lok Sabha constituency Jothimani and DMK district secretary (in charge) V. Senthil Balaji on Sunday staged a sit-in stir agitation at the Revenue Divisional Office, protesting against the discrimination over allotment of place near THE roundabout in the town to end the campaign on Tuesday.

The DMK alliance candidate, Ms. Jothimani, had planned to end the campaign near the roundabout on Karur-Coimbatore road on Tuesday evening. When the DMK members attempted to submit the application online, seeking permission, it was said that the AIADMK had already been allotted the place for campaign on Tuesday evening. Alleging discrimination over allotment of place and time for campaigning, Ms. Jothimani and Mr. Senthil Balaji began sit-in stir agitation in the office of RDO. They refused to accept the explanation of G. Saravanamurthy.

On information, Prashant Kumar, General Observer, and Manoj Kumar, Expenditure Observer, arrived at the spot and verified the process and the timing of submission of applications by AIADMK and the Congress parties. The election officials then allotted the AIADMK between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the Congress between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for campaigning near roundabout on Tuesday. Following this, Ms. Jothimani gave up the agitation.
