Collector orders release of water for Poochorithal fest

District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan has instructed the Public Works Department to release water in the Peruvalai and Pullampadi canals during the annual poochorithal festival at the Sri Mariamman Temple at Samayapuram scheduled to be held on Sunday.

Speaking at a meeting to review the arrangements for the festival here on Friday, Ms. Muralidharan directed the temple authorities, town panchayat, and the police to ensure adequate security for the festival.

The town panchayat should ensure cleanliness around the temple and additional sanitary workers would be deployed.

Basic amenities such as drinking water supply and toilets should be provided for the devotees.

Steps would be taken to provide uninterrupted power supply during the festival; however, generators should be kept ready.

Additional buses would be operated during the festival period by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. The buses would be operated from Tiruchi, Thuraiyur, Musiri, Perambalur, and Chathram Bus stand round-the-clock.

The Collector instructed the officials to set up medical camps for the devotees. Food safety inspectors would be deployed to conduct checks to ensure the quality of drinking water and food at hotels and at places where annadhanams are organised.

The temple will open at 5.30 a.m. and there will no darshan between 9 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. during the procession and between 3 p.m. and 3.45 p.m. for alangaram.
