Pattali Makkal Katchi cadre on Wednesday staged rail roko at Tiruchi and Thanjavur condemning the Centre for is failure to form the Cauvery Management Board.
A group of 68 party activists were arrested after they staged the agitation at Tiruchi railway junction. The protesters were led by the party’s urban district secretary, P.K. Dileep Kumar. A few members of farmers’ associations also took part.
In Thanjavur district, the agitations were held at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. Around 165 cadre were arrested after they staged the agitation at Kumbakonam railway station. The stir led to the detention of the Chennai-bound Cholan Express for about 20 minutes. Around 70 party cadre were arrested after they attempted to stage the agitation at Thanjavur railway junction.

The bandh called by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) received mixed response in Ariyalur district on Wednesday.
While more than 80% of traders downed shutters, buses and auto rickshaws plied as usual. The main bazaars, including Chinnakadai and Big Bazaar, looked deserted as traders extended support to the bandh call in protest against the Central government’s failure to form Cauvery Management Board.
More than 4,000 shops in Thirumanur, Senthurai, Jayankondam, Andimadam, T. Palur remained closed and around 450 PMK cadre were arrested when they picketed Guruvayur Express at Ariyalur.

In Karur, the PMK men staged a protest by picketing Coimbatore-Nagarcoil passenger train at Karur railway station. As many as 145 cadre, including 30 women, were arrested.
