Fire-breathing dragons on streamers enveloped the vintage pillars, bright orange and pink lanterns replaced Indian chandeliers, and cut-outs of women in kimonos sealed the oriental aura that made the Chettinad restaurant hardly recognisable-all announcing a Chinese food festival underway.
With more than 25 dishes lined up, the food festival at the Valayapatti restaurant in P.L.A. Krishna Inn offers a variety fare in a cuisine that has no exclusive restaurants dedicated to it here. Served in buffet style, the melange of the sweet, sour and spicy flavours typical of Chinese cuisine, promises enough for the palate craving for Schezwan fare.
“We have introduced ingredients like Thai curry paste, red bean paste, garlic and soya sauce,” said Thiyagarajan, chef. “Vegetables like broccoli, zucchini and lemon grass from Ooty are brought exclusively for the fest.” The menu varies every day for those who may want a second bite, he adds.

Broccoli fried rice, lamb liver cooked in red wine sauce, Singapore fried rice, Thai spicy soup, lamb with diced vegetables, red snapper are among the fare that included a thin and thick soup, choice of three salads, three fried rice dishes, and a couple of noodles. An assortment of pastries, ice creams and desserts provide a sweet finish. For those who are not inclined towards Chinese, Indian options like naan, roti and salads are included.
The food festival is on till August 17 with lunch and dinner options. The buffet is priced at Rs. 299 for adults and Rs. 149 for kids.
