Children show the way to conserve energy

318 students from 20 schools participate in competitions

As part of its efforts to promote awareness on energy conservation, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited and Anna Science Centre-Planetarium has organised a slew of events for students in the city on Friday.

Drawing, essay writing, poetry, and elocution competitions were organised for schoolchildren between classes 5 and 12 as part of energy awareness week from December 14 to 20.

A total of 318 students from 20 schools in Tiruchi participated. The drawing competition was organised for students from classes 5 to 7, essay / poetry competition for students of classes 8 to 10, and elocution competition for classes 11 and 12.

The drawing competition witnessed interesting sketches by the young guns that portrayed simple but effective ways to conserve energy, be it turning off the tap while brushing teeth, avoiding usage of lights during the day, and limiting the use of electrical appliances.

A total of 148 drawings were submitted by students.

The essays and poetry gave a glimpse into the abundant creative skills of the children. There were 135 entries for the event.

Elocution competition

As for the elocution competition, students enthralled listeners with their oratorical skills as they spoke about the importance of conserving energy and demonstrated the methods to do so.

A total of 35 children participated in the elocution competition.
