Thuvakudi-based BIDASS Industrial Services Organisation that supplies consumables such as electrodes, special electrodes and steel electrodes of various product types and sizes to its nearly 400-member industrial units functioning as BHEL’s ancillaries in Tiruchi region achieved a turnover of Rs. 38 crore in 2012-13.
According to V. Sivamani, BIDASS president, the organisation, registered under the Company Act as a non-profit entity, has been functioning since 1984 as a common facility centre selling products to member industrial units spread over the districts of Tiruchi, Pudukottai and Thanjavur for a profit margin of just 2 to 2.5 per cent. Even the profit was used to cover the costs of employing 80 persons, maintaining 11 vehicles and operating depots at four places: Mathur, Tiruverumbur, Ariyamangalam, and Pudukudi, he said.
According to BIDASS sources, the company on the verge of obtaining ISO certification has drawn up plans to procure raw materials for members, and conducting training programme for employees of member units.

The BIDASS website states that it has a stock of raw materials such as mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steel consumables, and tools gauges.
The facilities include trucks, trailers, erection material, and testing facilities such as radiography magnetic particle inspection and dye penetration.
Owing to BHEL’s support in the form of disseminating technical know-how to the ancillary units, BIDASS possesses the expertise to manufacture sophisticated heavy electrical power generation boiler components.

It is equipped with machineries, technology, manpower and expertise to handle any engineering turnkey project involving fabrication, machining and civil construction activities.
It is already serving chemical, petro-chemical refineries, cement industries, sugar industries, power generation sector, and railways.
