BHEL official receives Institution of Engineer’s best engineer award

Kumar, General Manager (in-charge) BHEL, Tiruchi was felicitated during the 45th Engineers’ Day celebration

R. Kumar, General Manager (in-charge) BHEL, Tiruchi, has received the Best Engineer Award instituted by the Institution of Engineers, Tiruchi Local Centre. J.Sankaran, Chairman, Tiruchi Local Centre, presented the award to Mr. Kumar, in recognition of the latter’s 37 years of service to engineering fraternity and society.

Past Chairman S.Dharmalingam, General Manager-Quality, BHEL, Tiruchi, G.Swaminathan, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi, and P.Nagamanickam, Chairman-elect and Additional General Manager, BHEL, Tiruchi, felicitated Mr.Kumar during the 45th Engineers’ Day celebration organised by the Tiruchi Local Centre at Periyar Maniammai University, Vallam, recently.

Winners of various competitions conducted for student chapters in engineering colleges and Technical chapters of IEI were also honoured with prizes on the occasion.

The members of the Institution of Engineers, Tiruchi Local Centre, planted 152 saplings on the premises of the university to mark the 152 birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M.Visvesvaraya.

Addressing on the theme of the celebrations: Appropriate Climate-Responsive Technologies for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development, K.Balasubramanian, Chief Executive Officer, Creative Consultants, Tiruchi, said integrating the excluded section of the society into the process of planning and development was crucial.

The society needs to be sensitised to labour-intensive, region-specific and eco-friendly technologies and renewable energy sources for sustainable development.

Climate-responsive technologies

Mr. Balasubramanian dwelt in detail on the appropriate climate-responsive technologies which could play the decisive role in balancing the conflict between inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Presiding over, the Vice-Chancellor of Periyar Maniammai University N.Ramachandran explained the zero carbon concept adopted in the university campus, and the tasks carried out by the institution under PURA (Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) in adjacent villages.
