BHEL donates incinerators to schools, colleges

The second batch of electrical incinerators being distributed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to around 60 schools and colleges in association with the Bharathidasan University were handed over to the institutions on Thursday.

A.V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi; and V.M. Muthukumar, Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, jointly handed over the incinerators meant for disposal of sanitary napkins to the institutions.

BHEL is providing about Rs. 55 lakh under its corporate social responsibility programme and the Bharathidasan University is implementing the project under the auspices of Women Involved in Sanitation and Hygiene (WISH).

Besides educating students on hygienic disposal of sanitary waste, National Service Scheme, and WISH volunteers educate the students on the health benefits.

Mr. Krishnan said that the novel initiative was aimed at improving hygiene of girl students belonging to five districts including Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur and stood as an example of industry academia joint initiative for a social cause. Dr.Muthukumar commended the joint effort in making the project a success.
