Prayers offered for Kerala flood victims

Muslims offering prayer at Uzhavar Santhai Ground in Tiruchi on Wednesday.

Muslims converged in mosques and Idgah Maidans in Tiruchi and other central districts on Wednesday to celebrate Bakrid by reciting special ‘duas’ for peace and communal harmony.

The festival of sacrifice marks the culmination of mandatory Haj pilgrimage by the faithfuls to Makkah and Madina in Saudi Arabia during the month of Zul-Haj in the Islamic calendar.

Morning prayers were held at the Idgah Maidan in cantonment, Palakkarai N.M. Panch Minar mosque, Fort Idgah maidan, Hazrath Natharvali Dargah mosque, NSB Road, Hassan Bagh mosque, Chowk Big Mosque and Jamal Mohamed College mosques.

Food was distributed to the poor.

Special prayers were conducted for the well-being of Kerala flood victims at various mosques in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagore, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur. In many congregations, funds were raised for Kerala victims.

In Thanjavur, a large number of Muslims offered prayers at the Jamia Masjid on the back of Grand Anicut Canal.

People of other faiths greeted Muslims celebrating the festival signifying oneness of God and equality among humanity.
