Anti-liquor protestors arrested

Several Makkal Adhikaram members, including women were arrested on Thursday after they attempted to indulge in picketing agitation at Anbil near Lalgudi demanding the closure of TASMAC liquor outlets across the State.

The members of the outfit, which had been vociferously demanding the closure of liquor shops at Anbil to picket a liquor outlet in that town.

A posse of police personnel were deployed at the spot to prevent the outfit members from staging the stir.

Talks were held by the police with protesters who were arrested after they attempted to stage the stir.

Police sources said 165 members, including 120 women, were arrested.

The stir was led by the outfit’s organiser Dharmaraj.
