All set for first phase of ‘samprokshanam’

Four-kaala puja to be performed at Ranganathaswamy Temple from September 7

Special ‘yagasalai’ is being set up at the 1,000-pillar mandapam of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam for the “samprokshnam” scheduled for September 9. This is the first phase of the “samprokshanam” covering 43 sannidhis and 11 gopurams.

The sannidhis, included Sri Dhanvanthiri, Koorathazhwan Sannidhi, Sri Kothandaramar Sannidhi, Sri Narasimhar Sannidhi, and Sri Hayagreevar sannidhi.

According to official sources, elaborate arrangements have been made for the setting up of casuarinas poles for reaching the gopurams for performing the “samprokshanam” rituals. “Devotees can witness the ‘samprokshanam’ of any particular ‘gopuram’ or ‘sannidhi’ and hence, there will be no restriction for entry or exit of the devotees,” said the source.

Four-kaala pujai will be performed in accordance with the “agama” guidelines. The first ‘kaala’ pujai will be performed at 7.30 p.m. on September 7. On the following day, the second, third, and fourth kaala pujai will be performed.

On September 9, the holy “gadam” will be taken from the yagasalai at about 5.15 a.m. and reach the “sannidhi” and gopurams.

The samprokshnam will be performed at 6.30 a.m. and will be followed by recital of the Vedas and Prabandham.

Holy powder (arakku) is prepared using conventional grinding stones for use at the sanctum sanctorum of the sannidhis.

Adequate arrangements had been made in coordination with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, city corporation, and other departments.

Special arrangements had been made for supply of drinking water.

Second spell

The “samprokshanam” for the presiding deities of Lord Ranganatha, Sri Ranganayaki, Sri Chakkarathazhwar, Sri Ramanuja, and other major shines together with the gopurams and the Rajagopuram will be performed during the second phase later.
