All 1,049 UG seats filled in NIT-T

All 1,049 seats in the nine B.Tech programmes and B.Arch programme offered by National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) have been filled at the end of the seven rounds of allotment conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) and the first of the two special rounds conducted by the Central Seat Allotment Board.

Fifty percent was allotted for home state (Tamil Nadu) students and remaining for other state students. Out of the total seats, 174 seats are reserved for female-only category. The online registration and choice filling were carried out from June 16 to 25. The result of first round seat allotment was announced on 27th June 2019.

This year as per the MHRD direction, 207 seats have been added to implement 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Ninety nine seats that were vacant after the regular seven rounds were filled in the first special round conducted by CSAB.

On Monday, the orientation programme for the first-year students was conducted. NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas, Deans and Heads of departments addressed the students.

There will be motivation programmes and bridge courses for two more weeks, and the regular classes will commence from August 19, R. Karvembu, Coordinator - UG Admission Committee, NIT-T, said.

As for the 153 seats under DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) category, 26 seats are vacant. The vacant seats are expected to be filled through the spot round opening on Tuesday, Prof. Karvembu said.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority and regulated seat allocation for B.E., B. Tech., B. Arch. and other programmes for admissions into 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 other Government Funded Technical Institutes for 13583, 21133, 4713 and 5806 seats respectively. The admissions for all seats in these institutes were made online through a single platform.
