TIRUCHI: The All India Rail Act Apprentice Association, Southern Railway has claimed that Act Apprentices who had undergone training in Southern Railway during the period 2008 to 2019 had not been given job in the Railways. The Association has alleged discrimination by the railway authorities for various political reasons.
The Association coordinator A. Arockiaregan on Monday said there were nearly 15,000 Act Apprentices in Tamil Nadu who were yet to be placed in railways after completion of training causing distress to them and their families.
Act Apprentices trained in Mumbai CST were placed in the Western Railways under the quota of its General Manager until 2015. The South Western Railway and South Central Railway had placed trained apprentices in their respective railway zones till 2014.

However, the Act Apprentices from Southern Railway had been purposefully discriminated for political reasons affecting them and their family, Mr. Arokiaregan alleged.
The Association has claimed that many from North India were appointed for vacancies in Southern Railway in Tamil Nadu through Railway Recruitment Board instead of appointing people from the State.
Out of the 1,765 Apprentice vacancies in Ponmalai Railway Workshop at Tiruchi, almost 1,600 had been appointed from North India based on their 10th / 12th / ITI marks, Mr. Arockiaregan further claimed.
