Works under way for sixth Samathuvapuram

Works are under progress at the Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram here at Satyakudi village in Nagapattinam. This will mark the sixth Samathuvapuram in the district, after those at Thagattur, Paapakovil, Panangudi, Thirukkuvalai and Kaatucheri. The Samathuvapuram conceived at a cost of Rs.2.14 crore is spread over a sprawling area of 8.2 acres. The land procured at Rs.6.4 lakh will be having 100 houses and each one will be constructed at Rs.2.14 lakh. Besides, the Samathuvapuram complex will house an overhead tank with a 30,000 liter capacity, at a cost of Rs.6 lakh.

Inspecting the progress of the works here, U.mathivaanan, Minister for Dairy Development, said low-lying areas were being levelled with sand at a cost of Rs. 3.15 lakh. A tar-road at a cost of Rs.20.70 lakh would be laid and 18 small crossings to the tune of Rs.6.20 lakh would be constructed. Further, street lamps would be erected at Rs.2.48 lakh.

In view of the partial completion of the works as of date, directions have been made to expedite the works, Mr.Mathivaanan added.
