Vanamamalai mutt begins work on Veda patasala

The foundation for the Sri Vana Mahachala Vidya Peetam, a patasala for imparting training on the Vedas to disciples, was laid at Amma Mandapam Road in Srirangam on Friday.

The Vidya Peetam is to come up under the auspices of Sri Vanamamalai Mutt, Nanguneri.

Srimath Paramahamsa Madurakavi Vanamamalai Ramanuja Jeer Swami laid the foundation for the Vidya Peetam in the presence of Sanskrit scholars, Vedic pundits, and disciples of the mutt.

The Vidya Peetam will have a state-of-the-art building to accommodate 50 students. Yajur Veda,

Divyaprabandham , and Agamas, will be taught for eight years.

The students would also be completing the regular stream of education, according to a note from the mutt.

The building will come up at an estimate of Rs. 1 crore and will include residential accommodation for teachers.

K.V.B. Devarajan Swamigal, Asthana Vidwan of the mutt, and Velukkudi Krishnan, noted scholar, were present. Those interested can donate money for the building. Donors can contact G. Sridhar Sowmiyan, co-ordinator of mutt, over cell phone: 9500110390.

The mutt plans to complete the building of the patasalai in eight months.
