VCK cadres demand release of arrested fishermen

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi cadres staged a protest demonstration in condemnation of the Tuesday's arrest and detention of 112 fishermen, here outside the head post office on Thursday.

The demonstration sought immediate release of the arrested fisherfolk and their 18 trawlers that were seized. Over 112 Nagapattinam-based fishermen were intercepted by the Sri Lankan fisherfolk, while fishing on the high seas, and were later handed over to the Sri Lankan Navy.

The brief protest witnessed participation from about 50 Party members, led by R.S.Vekatesan, secretary, fisherfolk's association of VCK.
