Tamil Nadu History Congress in Tiruchi

The 16th Session of the Tamil Nadu History Congress will be held at the National College in the city from October 9 to 11.

A total number of 150 papers will be presented during the three-day event which will be inaugurated by the former chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi Dr. M.G.S. Narayanan.

Eminent Epigraphist Iravatham Mahadevan will be honoured on the inaugural day of the History Congress in which senior historians, research scholars and students will participate.

Mr. Mahadevan will deliver the Tamil Nadu History Congress Endowment Lecture on “Vestiges of Indus Civilization in Old Tamil” at the plenary session on the inaugural day of the programme.

The Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University Dr. M. Ponnavaikko will release the Tamil Nadu History Congress (TNHC) proceedings at the inaugural function in which the TNHC president and former Principal, Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai Prof. T.R. Ramachandran, former Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education Dr. S. Muthukumaran will speak.

An ICHR sponsored symposium on “The Unsung Martyrs of the Freedom Struggle (1757-1947)” will form part of the History Congress, the general secretary of the TNHC and Professor & Head, Department of History, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi Dr. N. Rajendran told the media here on Wednesday.

The Member, State Planning Commission Dr. P. Jagadeesan, will deliver the presidential address at the valedictory function on October 11.
