Student killed as wall collapses in school

A nine-year-old boy was killed when the wall of his school collapsed on him at Kudiyampatty in Harur on Tuesday.

Vishal, son of Sasikala and Veerabadran, was studying in IV standard in Kudiyampatty Government Primary School.

On Tuesday, when the boy was near the rest room abutting the wall, it suddenly collapsed injuring him. Vishal was rushed to Harur Government Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to Education department sources, the 20-year-old wall abutting the field had become weak, say sources. The CEO of Dharmapuri, and Harur Tahsildar visited the spot.

An inquiry is being conducted on the incident. Vishal’s elder brother is studying in the high school.

This is the second such incident in a school in this region. Last year, a four-year-old girl Roja was killed in a wall collapse when she had gone to the restroom in a residential SSA school in Kelamangalam in Krishnagiri.
