TIRUCHI: Thousands of devotees on Tuesday witnessed the colourful Chithirai car festival of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam here as the devotees amidst religious fervour pulled the temple car through the four Chithirai streets in the town.
The urchava deity of Sri Namperumal was brought from the ‘Kannadi Arai’ in the early morning and taken to the Asthana Mandapam. After performing the pujas, the urchava deity was taken in a procession to the temple car where special pujas were performed. The devotees then pulled the car by glorifying ‘Sri Ranga Ranga’. The car festival marked the ninth day rituals of the Chithirai festival which is also known as ‘Viruppam Tirunaal’.
Several dignitaries took part in the car festival. Police had made elaborate arrangements for the festival and the TNSTC operated special buses to Srirangam.
