Sale of subsidised toor dhal re-launched to check price

The Cooperative Department on Wednesday re-launched the sale of subsidised toor dhal through co-operative outlets in the district. It has been re-launched after a gap of five months. The State government had launched the sale of toor dhal in November 2015 though 91 cooperative outlets as a market intervention initiative when the price of toor dhal went up to Rs.210 a kg in the retail market.

K.C. Ravichandran, Joint Registrar of Cooperatives, who formally started the sale at Chinthamani Super Market, told The Hindu that toor dhal would be sold at a cost of Rs.110 per kg. It would be available in one kg and half kg packs.

22 outlets

It would be sold in 22 outlets across the district including 17 outlets in the city.

The customers could get toor dhal at Chinthamani Cooperative Super Market, Amaravathi Cooperative Super Market, Sri Ranganatha Cooperative Store in Srirangam and others in the city.

He said that it had stocked 18 tonnes of toor dhal for the current month. It had been sent to the concerned stores in different parts of the district.

100 tonnes sold

A total of 100 tonnes of subsidised toor dhal was sold in the district between November and February.

The re-launch had been necessitated to bring down the price of toor dhal further, which is being sold between Rs.150 and Rs.160 a kg in the retail market.
