Postal Dept. opens modernised parcel hub

The Department of Posts has opened a modernised parcel hub to cope with the rising volume of parcels handled by it.

The new hub is part of restructuring of the parcel network by the Department of Posts to cater to e-commerce shipments.

Charles Lobo, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, inaugurated the hub on Birds Road. J. Charukesi, Postmaster General, Central Region, and G. Natarajan, Director of Postal Services, Central Region, spoke on the additional amenities at the hub.

S. Krishnamurthy, Senior Superintendent of Railway Mail Service, RMS Division, Tiruchi, said that the parcel hub had registered a sharp growth in its service during the financial year 2015-16 and has handled 3.71 lakh parcels which is 36 per cent over the previous year. Fifty per cent growth was anticipated this financial year and the parcel handling infrastructure had been renovated. The entire hub had been designed with semi-automation services, he added.

Booking facility would be provided shortly at the parcel hub.
