Police tighten security for Modi's Tiruchi visit

Check-posts set up 17 places and 250 people picked from hotels and lodges.

Security has been tightened in Thanjavur district in view of the visit of Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister and

Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP to Tiruchi on September 26.

According to the police, temporary check-posts have been created in 17 places and vehicle checks done from Sunday night.

Vehicles are being intercepted at Kodimaraimman temple, Tantex Roundtana, Pattukottai Road, Thanjavur-

Kumbakonam Road junction in Thanjavur and at Thiruvidaimaruthur, Kumbakonam, and Orathanadu bypass.

The police have picked up 250 persons in two days on Friday and Saturday from hotels, marriage halls, and lodges.

Pudukottai

Security arrangements have been strengthened on the Pudukottai – Tiruchi sector.

Special teams have been formed to check vehicles. Bomb Detection and Disposable Squad personnel have been conducting intensive check at the railway station here.

Without taking a chance, they keep a vigil at the express and passenger trains being operated on the Karaikudi–

Tiruchi segment.They check the baggage of passengers. This apart, checks on vehicles have been intensified at all the

police sub-divisions in the district.
