About 32, 160 differently abled persons have been issued national identity cards in the district, said K.N.Nehru, Transport Minister, here on Saturday.
Mr.Nehru also disclosed that 610 tri-cycles, 64 motorised tri-cycles, 625 hearing aids, 475 Braille watches and 60 motorised tailoring machines have been provided free to differently abled persons in the district so far.
Apart from the various welfare programmes meant for differently abled, Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi has ordered that Rs.5 lakh be allotted from each MLA's Local Area Development Fund for providing free assistive devices to differently abled persons in their constituencies, Mr.Nehru said inaugurating an evaluation camp for assessing differently abled persons from Tiruchi II Assembly constituency here.

About 824 differently abled persons from the constituency were assessed during the camp and 385 persons were identified for being provided with various assistive devices depending on their requirements. About 20 persons were also screened by specialist doctors.
Mr.Nehru also distributed Rs.10.48 lakh worth of assistive devices to 16 differently abled persons .
