Over 1,000 police personnel from the Central Zone comprising eight districts have been sent to Coimbatore for bandobust duty in connection with the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in the textile city from June 23 to 27.
Police sources here said nine local units, each comprising about 120 men and officers from various districts including Tiruchi Rural, Pudukottai and Thanjavur, forms part of the total strength sent from the Central Zone to Coimbatore. Each unit is headed by an officer in the rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
In addition to this strength, three platoons from the Armed Reserve and two units from the Traffic Wing have also been sent to augment the bandobust strength at Coimbatore city during the days of the conference. Anti-Sabotage teams trained in bomb detection and disposal also form part of the strength that has been sent to Coimbatore.

Besides this, few Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors and Sub inspectors have been sent separately for liaison works, the sources said. Around 500 policemen and officers from the City Police have been deputed for duty at Coimbatore.
The Fire and Rescue Services Department has sent its men and officers from various divisions falling under the Tiruchi Region to Coimbatore for the meet. Over 260 fire fighters from Tiruchi Region encompassing Cuddalore, Villupuram, Perambalur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam divisions have been deputed.
The sources said necessary equipment required for fire fighting and rescue operations were sent last week to Coimbatore.
