Library Week Observation from Nov. 14

The Department of Public Libraries has lined up a series of contests and events for school students and general readers in connection with the Library Week Observation from November 14 to 20.

A quiz contest will be held for students of standards X – XII at the Seva Sangam Girls Higher Secondary School on November 15. Readers can participate in story telling, poetry and essay writing contests to be held at the District Central Library at Singarathope on November 16.

The library will also host a story telling competition students of LKG to standard III, painting contest for students of standards IV – VI and an essay writing contest for students of standards VII – IX on November 17.

On November 19, the library will launch a monthly book introduction programme for visually challenged students at the Government School for Blind Girls at Puthur.

A street campaign to highlight the importance of libraries and reading will be held across the city the next day. Those interested in participating in the contests are required to register their names with the officials at the District Central Library.

The department will also organise a slogan writing contest on ‘library awareness’ for the general public during the Library Week commencing on November 14.

Members of the public can send in slogans in Tamil or English, not exceeding 10 words, by e-mail to dcl@tn.nic.in or SMS to 7402603631 or 7402603635.

Top three entries will be awarded prizes during the valediction of the Library Week Observation, an official release said.
