The Director General of Police, Letika Saran, on Thursday handed over cheque for Rs. 30 lakh to Sundari, wife of Sub-Inspector Panneerselvam who was shot dead by a security guard at an ATM at Papanasam in Thanjavur district on Tuesday.
The DGP met Sundari at her residence at Pulivalam village near here and handed over the cheque. She assured Sundari of a job for her son Venkatesan, who is an MBA graduate.
Later the DGP told presspersons here that Rs. 30 lakh included Rs. 5 lakh given by the government when a person dies in harness, Rs. 2 lakh from Chief Minister's relief fund, Rs. 19 lakh donated by police personnel of the eight districts situated in central zone, Rs. 3 lakh from leave surrender and Rs. 1 lakh from police headquarters.

She said that investigation, which is now on, alone would reveal whether the security guard was under “stress.” The police had been giving training to security guards of private agencies. The police should monitor them after they got jobs in companies. “Police job is no doubt full of risks,” she said.
The DGP said that the matter was sub judice when asked about the police-advocate incidents at Maras High Court.
