Labour officials raid nearly 100 shops

Officials of the Labour Department conducted checks at 60 shops in Tiruchi and another 32 in Pudukottai on Monday to check the implementation of labour laws.

According to a press release, the checks were conducted at shops and commercial establishments around the Central and Chathram Bus Stands by teams of deputy labour inspectors and assistant inspectors. The checks were conducted under the supervision of K.Palani, Labour Inspector, under instructions from K.Maharajan, Deputy Commissioner of Labour.

Cases were booked against four establishments on charges of selling products above the maximum retail price and two other shops for violations of Packaged Commodities Rules and the Weights and Measures Act. Violations under the Weights and Measures Act would attract a fine of Rs.5,000.

Violations of packaged commodities rules would lead to a fine of Rs.2, 500, Mr.Palani said in a press release.
